Connie Francis

Biography

Connie Francis, born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero on December 12, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey, and died on July 16, 2025 in Pompano Beach, Florida, was an American singer of Italian origin. She dominated the late 1950s and early 1960s with a series of international hits such as Who's Sorry Now?, Lipstick on Your Collar, Where the Boys Are, and Stupid Cupid. She reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 three times with Everybody's Somebody's Fool, My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own, and Don't Break the Heart That Loves You, becoming the most popular American female artist of that era.

Her career took off in 1958 with the cover of Who's Sorry Now? (1923), which became a worldwide success after being featured on *American Bandstand*. She was known for her emotional style and melancholic ballads like My Happiness or Among My Souvenirs. A polyglot, she recorded in nine languages (Italian, Spanish, French, German, etc.), and her album *Italian Favorites* (1960) was a major success. She also acted in films such as *Where the Boys Are* (1960), for which she sang the title track, *Follow the Boys* (1963), and *Looking for Love* (1964).

After a hiatus in the late 1960s, she returned to the stage in the 1970s and 1980s, published her autobiography *Who’s Sorry Now?* in 1984, and continued to perform, maintaining international popularity despite personal hardships.
