Robin Beck

Biography

Robin Beck, born November 7, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, is a singer. She began her career as a backing vocalist for artists like Melissa Manchester, Chaka Khan, and Leo Sayer, as well as singing commercial jingles.

There was a ten-year gap between her first and second album. Her biggest success came with the song First Time, popularized by a Coca-Cola advertisement. She collaborated with Desmond Child, and songs she performed first later became hits for Cher, Bonnie Tyler, Kiss, and John Waite.

Her debut album, “Sweet Talk” (1979), produced by disco producer Kenny Lehman, remains a sought-after collector’s item today and is often considered to rival the big names of the disco era.

She is married to James Christian. Her album “Trouble Or Nothin'” (1989) was produced by Desmond Child and features contributions from Steve Lukather (Toto), Guy Mann Dude, and backing vocals from Paul Stanley of Kiss, among others. It also includes a cover of Kiss’s “Hide Your Heart”.

Her second album, “Human Instinct” (1992), features a plethora of top studio musicians, including Jeff Porcaro of Toto, keyboardist Kim Bullard, guitarists Tim Pierce, Michael Landau, Lee Ritenour, and Michael Thompson, and backing vocals from Myriam Valle. The Lennon brothers from the band Venice also contribute backing vocals on several tracks.

Robin Beck made a comeback in 2005 with the album “Do You Miss Me”. She also collaborated with guitarist Tommy Denander on his solo album “Taken”, duetting on the track “Easy’s Getting Harder” with James Christian.
