Narcotic Thrust
Biography
Narcotic Thrust is a musical project formed by the DJ and producer duo Andy Morris and Stuart Crichton. The project’s name is an anagram of Stuart Crichton.
Stuart Crichton began his career in the early 1990s on the Limbo Records label, producing progressive house under the alias ‘Havana’. He made remixes for The Grid and Rozalla, and under the name Umboza, achieved two top 15 hits for Positiva Records with ‘Cry India’ and ‘Sunshine’. He also wrote and produced with dance industry figures, and created the Kylie Minogue and New Order mash-up used at the Brit Awards.
Andy Morris, from Australia, joined Stuart Crichton in London after successful DJ residencies at Leisure Lounge and Club UK. He hosted a weekly show on Kiss FM, toured internationally as a DJ, and produced tracks for labels like Jive, Whoop! and Pitch Black. He compiled the mix album ‘Parallels’ for Logic Records.
Their collaboration combines Andy’s dancefloor sensibility and Stuart’s production skills. Their first track, ‘Funky Acid Baby’, was released on Indochina Records. They then remixed artists like Apollo 404, Real 2 Real and Amen UK.
After a break, the duo made a notable comeback with the deep and funky anthem Safe From Harm, signed after Pete Tong witnessed its club reception. The track features vocals by Yvonne John–Lewis (collaborator of Zero 7) and a melodic line co-written by Rob Davis (co-writer of ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ for Kylie Minogue). It was widely supported by DJs like Roger Sanchez and Paul Oakenfold.
Their best-known track is I Like It, released in 2004. The project has also used the names N’Thrust, N-Thrust, NT, Narcothic Thrust, Narcotic and Narcotic Trust.
