
Yohanna
Biography
Yohanna, born Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir, is a singer born on October 16, 1990, in Copenhagen, Denmark, but who grew up in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland.
Discovered at the age of eight by a singing teacher, she attended a drama school and recorded her first album at age nine, released in 2000. The record was a major success in Iceland, followed by two more albums in 2001 and 2003.
After a break to allow her voice to mature, she made her comeback in 2008 with the album *Butterflies and Elvis*, a collaboration with British composer Lee Horrocks and sound engineer Thomas Yezzi.
She gained international fame in 2009 by representing Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow with the song Is It True?. She won the first semi-final and ultimately finished in second place in the contest.
To facilitate recognition outside her native country, she has primarily used the stage name Yohanna since 2008, as the first name Jóhanna is often mispronounced abroad.
