Anita Doth
Biography
Anita Doth, born Anita Daniëlle Dels, is a Dutch singer born on December 28, 1971, in Amsterdam.
She is best known as the singer of the Eurodance group 2 Unlimited until 1997. With her partner Ray Slijngaard, she achieved worldwide success with hits like No Limit, The Real Thing, Get Ready 4 This, and Tribal Dance, reaching number one positions in over fifty countries.
After the split of 2 Unlimited, she embarked on a solo career, releasing her first album “Reality” in 2000 under the simple name Anita. She wrote the songs for this album herself, collaborating with producers like Steve Mac, Todd Terry, and Adamski, exploring UK dance, pop, drum ‘n’ bass, and chemical beats sounds. The released singles include “Universe”, “Lifting up My Life”, and “This Is Reality”. She had previously released the solo single “Center Of Your Universe” in 1999.
Alongside her music career, she hosted the show “Welcome the Pleasure Zone” on the Dutch music channel TMF and worked as a DJ for Radio 538.
In 2002, she formed the project Divas Of Dance with Linda Estelle (formerly of T-Spoon) and Des'ray (former lead singer of the Eurodance project 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor). The trio performed a repertoire of dance classics live, including, of course, 2 Unlimited tracks.
She also collaborated with other artists, notably a duet with Dutch singer René Froger on the song “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You” in 2000, and recorded some tracks with Jamaican reggae artist Mad Cobra.
In 2004, she expressed that she would not be against a reunion of 2 Unlimited. In 2005, she gave birth to a son named Destyno. In 2010, she revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Of Surinamese origin, Anita Doth started singing at a very young age. Before her music career, she worked as a secretary in a police station. Her first experience in show business was as a dancer and backing vocalist for the group of Marvin D, before being recommended for the project that would become 2 Unlimited.
