K-System
Biography
K-System is the project of Finnish producer and DJ Kimmo Kalevi Kauppinen, originally from Hämeenlinna. Having been a DJ since the age of 13, he launched the project in 1999 when he felt he had enough original material to release his first single, Come To Me, in July 1999. The track spent eight weeks on the Finnish Dance Chart, reaching number 8 and receiving praise from local DJs.
From the beginning, K-System’s musical approach was not strictly confined to a single genre like trance or house; the artist stated that he primarily wanted to create good tracks for the dance floor. His live performances are designed as complete shows, including a singer and dancers.
K-System’s career has been marked by several successes in the Nordic charts. In 2001, the single Set U Free (with MC Luzid) remained number one on the Finnish Dance Chart for seven weeks and also broke through in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Australia. The following track, SupaDupaSound, reached number 3 on the Finnish Dance Chart. These successes led to the release of the album SUPADUPASOUNDS on September 24, 2001, which entered the Finnish Album Chart directly at number 26. Other singles like Rok The Discotheque (October 2001) and Clubmaster (May 2002) also reached the Top 10 of Finnish and Scandinavian dance charts.
In 2003, the single Sound Of Arena reached the top spot on the local Finnish dance chart. That same year, K-System mixed the compilation “Clubbers guide to Finland” for Ministry of Sound, which remained the best-selling compilation album for several weeks.
The year 2004 was particularly fruitful: the track Guardian Angel was voted the best dance track of the year by Finnish DJs, reaching number 2 on the Finnish Dance Chart and number 1 on the Official Finnish Disco Chart. The album Sleep Is The Enemy was released in March 2004 and reached number 25 on the national album chart in its first week. At the end of the year, the single L.O.V.E. (A Little Piece of Heaven) enjoyed great success in Finnish clubs.
Kimmo Kauppinen is also active under several aliases: he has produced under the names Boozebangers, Kimmo Kauppinen, and Kimble K. He owns the label Fairlite Recordings and worked as an in-house writer for the label Rexus. In 2008, he was voted “Producer of the Year” by Finnish DJs, a recognition of his work by his peers.
