Massiv 4
Biography
Massiv 4 is the stage name of electronic music artist Gerhard Szamuhely.
He started working as a DJ in 1990 and soon landed his first official appearance at a nightclub in Vienna. More bookings followed in Switzerland and Austria, where he won crowds over with a mix of House, Dance and Progressive.
In autumn 1999, Andreas Schutti—founder and owner of the Nachtschicht nightclub chain—noticed him. Shortly after, Massiv 4 became a resident DJ for the Nachtschicht Entertainment Group. He toured across Austria, guided by his motto: “Party All The Time!”
In autumn 2001, he ended that collaboration to tour with DJ Top 4ty Austria. Thanks to his “party voice” and experience behind the decks, he took on the tour’s musical direction and MC role in the years that followed.
In 2004, he opened his own record shop in Vienna, Deejay Exclusive. At the end of 2005, he produced Sugar, Sugar with DJ Bonito, marking his first major international chart presence. The track reached the Top 20 of the GermanDeejayCharts, and its video ran for weeks in heavy rotation on the TV channel “VIVA”.
At the end of 2006, Massiv 4 met DJ Mafia. After intensive studio nights at Orange Music and initial tracks made for promotion, they launched the project Hands Up Squad. Their first joint hit, Popp that Pussy, became an international success, followed by Be Denied. They framed their dance project around the slogan: “HANDS UP SQUAD – The Home of the Big Beat”.
In summer 2007, Hands Up Squad teamed up with DJ Andy Garcia for Movin' On, presented as a standout summer hit and heavily played on Austrian dancefloors. After a demanding club tour at home and abroad, the duo returned to the studio in autumn 2007 to work on new tracks.
With Alice in Wonderland, they continued along the “The Home of the Big Beat” line.
In early spring 2008, Massiv 4 produced a summer-oriented cover under the alias DEVICE: Africa, driven by House beats and reaching the Top 20 of the DJ Top 4ty charts.
In summer 2008, Hands Up Squad and the Sioux Deejay Team released Coin, Operated Boy, described as a dancefloor smasher that surged through the dance charts.
