Basement Jaxx
Biography
Basement Jaxx is a British house music duo consisting of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, which achieved major success in the late 1990s.
The duo formed in 1994 in Brixton, South London. The name Basement Jaxx comes from the location of the studio where they recorded their first EP, in the basement of Simon Ratcliffe’s friends. They ran a regular club night called Rooty, which later gave its name to their second album.
Their single Red Alert, in its Jaxx Radio Mix version, was released in 1999. In addition to their own productions, Basement Jaxx became a highly sought-after remixer duo, reworking tracks such as [song]4 My People[/song], [song]Like I Love You[/song], or [song]She Wants To Move[/song].
The project is also known under several aliases, including Summer Daze, Future Earth, Banana Kru, Jaques Da Booty, Nifty, Felisimo, and Jaxtrak. The duo has also been referenced under many name variations, such as BJaxx, The Basement Jaxx, Jaxx, or Basement Jacks.
Their music is associated with the electronic, house, dance, electronica, pop, and big beat genres.
