Beverlei Brown
Biography
Beverlei Brown is a British singer and vocalist.
She developed her vocal skills with her mother, who sang in her church choir in Birmingham. Growing up, she joined this choir and eventually became its leader. A solo performance with the Clark Sisters at a gospel wailers concert in the UK was a turning point.
Her professional career truly took off when she was recruited by Fine Young Cannibals, who were looking for gospel singers for an album project. Her contribution to the sessions was decisive in the band obtaining a recording contract, and she accompanied them on their worldwide promotional tour.
Back in Birmingham, she finished her studies and worked as a receptionist in a law firm before accepting a touring engagement with Ruby Turner for two years. Her reputation quickly became established, allowing her to collaborate with numerous artists such as Simply Red, Snap!, Joe Cocker, the Brand New Heavies, Babyface, and Chaka Khan.
The opportunity to record her own material arose in 1996 with the song On and On, produced by Gary Benson and Livingston Brown, which became a hit in British clubs. An album was recorded but was not released following the bankruptcy of the record company.
Two years later, the label Dome Records offered her a contract, leading her to move to London to work in the studio on the album *Next to You*. She co-wrote six tracks for this project, which includes a duet titled Could It Be You recorded in New Jersey with Dennis Taylor, an artist from the same label. The album was notably successful in Japan, while the British version included three additional tracks.
She is also known under the names Bev Brown, Bevelei Brown, Beverley, Beverley Brown, Beverli Brown, Beverlie Brown, Beverly Brown, and Everlei Brown.
