Datura
Biography
The Italian group Datura was formed in 1991 in Bologna around the musicians Ciro Pagano (former member and founder of the Italian electro-pop group Gaznevada) and Stefano Mazzavillani (arranger for many renowned Italian pop singers in the 80s). The collective also includes the members Amparo Fidalgo, Carlo Andrea Raggi and Riccardo Testoni.
In its early days, the group closely collaborated with two influential DJs, Cirillo and DJ Ricci, who were involved in all of Datura’s productions until 1995. Their first single, Nu Style, was followed by several hits like Yerba Del Diablo and Eternity.
Throughout its career, Datura has collaborated with artists such as Billie Ray Martin and Steve Strange from the group DJ Visage. The group has also produced remixes for Freddie Mercury, Luciano Ligabue, Irene Grandi, Skiantos and C.S.I..
The collaboration with DJ Ricci ceased in 1995, and then Cirillo left the project in 2000. The group has been operating from its own studio, Coco Studio.
