The project’s name is inspired by a track by Johnny Guitar Watson titled The Supermen Lover.

The project is also known under the aliases Guillaume Atlan and Stan de Mareuil, as well as several name variations such as SML, Superman Lovers, Supermen Lover, The Superman Lovers, The Supermen Lover’s, or The Supreme Lovers.

The biggest success of The Supermen Lovers is generally considered to be the track Starlight, released in 2001, which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and was number one eight times across Europe.
