Cut ‘n’ Move

Cut ‘n’ Move

Biography

Formed in Aarhus, Denmark in the early 1990s, Cut ‘N’ Move was one of the first Danish eurodance projects. Although influenced by hip-hop, the group did not focus on rap and its hits are distinctly eurodance.

The collective consisted of producers/mixers Per Holm and Jørn Kristensen, rapper MC Zipp (Jens Kjær Larsen), and vocalists Thera Hoeymans (who joined in December 1990) and Zindy Laursen (who joined for the second album).

Their first single, “Take No Crap” (1990) with Christine Christiansen, became an international hit in 1991 under the title Get Serious, reaching the top 10 of the US dance chart.

The debut album, Get Serious (Epic Records, 1991), sold about 53,000 copies in Denmark and 200,000 worldwide. In 1992, it earned the group three Danish Grammy Awards: Danish Newcomer of the Year, Danish Hit of the Year, and Danish Rap/Dance Album of the Year.

The second album, Peace, Love & Harmony (1993), featured Zindy Laursen on four tracks and Thera Hoeymans on two. It spawned a worldwide hit with the cover of Give It Up, which reached No. 1 in Australia for four weeks in 1994.

Thera Hoeymans left the group in March 1994 to pursue theater. The third and final album, The Sound of Now (1995), had moderate success with the single I'm Alive on US and UK dance charts.

A compilation, Into the Zone '91-'96 (1996) featuring three new songs, won Dance Album of the Year at the Danish Grammy Awards. The group disbanded in 1997.

Considered a forerunner of 1990s Danish pop (notably Aqua), Cut ‘N’ Move helped broaden the audience for dance music in Denmark.
