Dasha

Dasha

Biography

Several artists use the name Dasha, including a Czech pop singer, an indie band from Mexico City, an American pop and country singer, and an indie rock/midwest emo band from Rochester, New York, active from 2007 to 2010.

The Czech singer Dasha is the stage name of Dagmar Sobková. She released her debut album “…do peřin” in 1997, then focused on her theater career. She returned in 2017 with a second album, “Konečně”, which reached No. 6 on the Czech charts.

Dasha is also an indie band from Mexico City, specifically from the Iztapalapa area. Early on, it was a trio made up of Eliseo Gayosso, Bruno Gayosso, and Gerardo Quintero. Quintero left in 2016, and Daniel Ocampo then joined the Gayosso brothers to continue the project. The band recorded two EPs: “Tú & yo” (self-released in 2015, then released in 2017 via CCCLUB) and “Entre Fantasmas” (2017, CCCLUB). Dasha continues to perform live and collaborates with the magazine and netlabel CCCLUB, which grew out of Dosis Magazine in Zacatecas.

Another artist named Dasha is an American singer from San Luis Obispo, California, now based in Nashville. She released her debut album “Dirty Blonde” in 2023, a project with pop and R&B influences. She gained visibility on TikTok with her song “Austin” and the viral choreography that accompanied it.

Finally, Dasha was also the name of an indie rock and midwest emo quintet from Rochester, NY, active from 2007 to 2010. The lineup included Chris Bonawitz, Nick Fiske, Nick Maynard, Tommy Vollmer, and Colleen Vasey. They released a four-track demo in 2007, followed a year later by the album “Damned If We Do”, available on Bandcamp and on CD.
