Tom Grennan

Biography

Tom Grennan is a British singer and songwriter from Bedford, based in London. Of Irish and English heritage, he grew up with a father who worked as a building contractor and a mother who was a teacher. A football fan from an early age, he played for the Bedford Park Tigers and was a big Manchester United supporter. He trained as a professional footballer with Luton Town, Northampton Town and Aston Villa before being released, and then briefly worked at Costa Coffee.

His music career began unexpectedly at a party where he performed “Seaside” by The Kooks, impressing friends who urged him to keep going. At 18, alongside studying drama at university, he began playing acoustic-guitar sets in London pubs for nearly three years. After hearing him at the Finsbury Pub, a representative from Insanity Records offered him a deal.

His debut EP, *Something in the Water*, was produced by Charlie Hugall. A major breakthrough came in 2016 when he featured on “All Goes Wrong” by Chase & Status, named “Hottest Record” by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1. The success led to invitations to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and BBC Two’s *Later… with Jools Holland*, and the track charted in the UK, Scotland and across Europe.

In 2017, he was shortlisted for the MTV Brand New Award and performed at the MTV Showcase. That year he also appeared in Charli XCX’s video for “Boys” and collaborated with grime MC Bugzy Malone on “Memory Lane”. He also performed at Trafalgar Square during F1 Live in London.

In March 2018, he began a UK tour to promote his debut album *Lighting Matches*, scheduled for release in July 2018. His song “Found What I've Been Looking For” appears on the FIFA 18 soundtrack and is used as the theme for Super Sunday on Sky Sports.
