Urban Cookie Collective
Biography
Urban Cookie Collective is a British techno and house group from Manchester.
The project was founded in 1992 by Rohan Heath, who was the driving force, handling keyboards, writing, and production. Prior to that, Heath had worked with Yargo and A Guy Called Gerald. He also released the track “Hardcore Uproar” under the name ‘Together’, which reached No. 12 in the UK charts in August 1990.
The original line-up included singer Diane Charlemagne, who also co-wrote some tracks. Other key members were Simon Bertall and Peter Samson on bongos. Additional contributors were involved with the group, including Rachel McFarlane, Neil Claxton, and Danielle Barnett. Guest rappers occasionally featured in the studio.
The group achieved major success in 1993 with the single The Key The Secret. Originally a soul- and hip-hop-leaning composition Heath created at home, the track took off after a remix sparked a huge club reaction. It peaked at No. 2 in the UK, No. 3 in Australia, and No. 5 in Germany.
The success continued with the follow-up single, Feels Like Heaven, but later releases saw diminishing returns.
