Public Domain
Biography
Public Domain is a Scottish trance and hard dance group from Ayr. The project was founded by James Allan, Mark Sherry and Alistair MacIsaac with the idea of releasing their music under a “public domain” license. Their international breakthrough came with the single Operation Blade, which reached number five on the UK charts and was certified platinum in Australia.
After the track was signed to Slinky, they brought in Mallorca Lee as lead vocalist, accompanied by David Forbes; both paused their separate project to contribute to the album “Hardhop Superstars”. Following a world tour in 2001 and 2002, Mallorca Lee and David Forbes returned to their solo careers.
Subsequently, Neil Skinner (aka MC Cyclone), a long-time friend known for his work with Dyewitness, joined the group. The lineup evolved further: Alistair MacIsaac left in 2004 and Mark Sherry departed in 2009 to focus on his solo projects.
The current lineup of Public Domain includes James Allan and Neil Skinner. The group continues to tour and work on new material, with recent appearances in Japan and at the Coloursfest festival in Scotland.
Do not confuse this Scottish band with other artists of the same name, notably a Dutch hardcore techno and gabber duo or an Austrian hardcore punk group.
