Zonderling
Biography
Zonderling is a Dutch future house duo from the province of North Holland, made up of Martijn van Sonderen and Jaap de Vries. The name, roughly translating to ‘eccentric’, reflects their distinctive musical approach.
The duo emerged from the ranks of the world-renowned group Noisia. Their first track, Sonderling, was produced in 2011 and released in 2012 on the Dutch techno label Klopfgeist; it was widely picked up by DJs and quickly amassed millions of views.
After a period of silence, Zonderling reappeared in 2014 on SPRS, a sublabel of Spinnin’ Records. Characterful tracks such as the dark, melancholic Pruillip and the vigorous sounds of Zonnewind drew attention. Their music, a house style blending trance chords and 8-bit timbres, conveys a mysterious, novel atmosphere.
The duo continued with the release of Zinderlong in December 2014. Signed to Don Diablo’s Hexagon Records, Zonderling is known for a raw yet melodic approach to house, producing club tracks praised by critics.
