Drömhus
Biography
Drömhus is a Swedish eurodance project launched in 1997. The name means dream house in Swedish and is fronted by singer-songwriter Therese Grankvist, born Eva Therese Grankvist on 2 May 1977 in Nässjö.
Her musical career began unusually when she phoned the record label Sony and sang on their answering machine. This led to a demo recording and, around 1997, to meeting Dr. Alban at Dr. Records, who persuaded her to join the new Drömhus project.
Originally Drömhus was intended to be a group of two men and Therese, but it was eventually reduced to the singer and her producers. The first single Du och jag was released in 1997.
The major success came in 1998 with Vill ha dig, a cover of a 1980s hit by the group Freestyle. The debut album Drömmar sold more than 25,000 copies in Sweden, earned a gold record and topped the charts across Northern Europe.
In 1999 Drömhus took part in Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with Stjärna på himmelen; the song placed second and the project did not qualify for Eurovision.
In 2000 Therese Grankvist announced she was leaving Drömhus to perform under the mononym Therese. Under that name she released two albums and collaborated successfully with artists such as StoneBridge and Digital Dog.
