Biography
Bernard Greene, professionally known as B.G. the Prince of Rap, was an American rapper and singer born on 28 September 1965 in Washington, D.C.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany in 1985, where he later lived; it was during his service that he began rapping.
His career rose with the popularity of Euro House and Eurodance; his biggest success came in 1991 with the single This Beat Is Hot, a collaboration with The Dreamhouse, which reached number one on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
The song also reached No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 54 on the Hot Black Singles chart. The following year, in 1992, he released Take Control of the Party, which reached No. 2 on the US dance chart and No. 71 on the UK Singles Chart.
During the 1990s he released several other tracks, including The Power of Rhythm, Can We Get Enough?, The Colour of My Dreams and Stomp!.
His discography includes the studio albums The Power of Rhythm (1991), The Time Is Now (1994) and Get the Groove On (1996).
B.G. the Prince of Rap died on 21 January 2023 in Wiesbaden, Germany, aged 57, after being affected by prostate cancer in the last years of his life.
